The Vans Warped Tour 2010

As I waited for my Warped Tour photo pass before the gates opened at Cruzan Amphitheatre, I was taken back to a time when I was in high school. The demographic for Warped Tour is much younger then that of other shows that I tend to go to. The awkwardness of being a teenager was on display, yet I was reminded of how much fun I had in my youth going to shows and kicking some ass in the pit.

Now mind you, it was a bazillion degrees out all day. There isn't much shade to go around on the Cruzan Amphitheatre grounds and the sun was beating down all day. I was wearing shorts and a t shirt and I could barely see through my viewfinder I was sweating so much. I am officially dumbfounded. I would almost consider this a health hazard.

I used to crowd surf when I was younger. That was before I grew to 6'4 and 200 pounds. Just not the same anymore. The offical Crowd Surf of the Day goes to this guy who crowd surfed on his cart. The guards didn't know what to think.

Here are some crowd shots from throughout the day

I also cooled off in the skate tent and took some photos

Test with Christina

Christina is an old friend from my days at UCF. I was visiting Orlando recently where she still lives and we discussed doing a shoot for her portfolio. She was down for the weekend so we only had one day to shoot. The weather was pretty dreadful and extremely muggy, but we were able to get a couple looks before it started pouring. It was so muggy that I could barely see through the viewfinder with my foggy glasses. Make up was done by Chantelle Tarride

The location is Jimbo's place. The spot is locally renowned for people using it for a photo or video location. I had scouted the location before the shoot, a great day to shoot of course, and got some cool photos of the area. The place is real funky with a few regulars that hang around the property. I had a bunch of different ideas for the shoot, but the weather just didn't cooperate.

A Weekend in Melbourne

o it's the middle of July and there's surf. Why not head up coast right? I can admit that catching a wave alludes me. It's going to happen though. I am in training. At least that's what I tell myself.

Surfing is one of those things that I would love to photograph more of when I have a nice telephoto lens or underwater housing. For this trip I primarily used a Canon AE-1 with an old manual focus 300mm 5.6 lens. I explained to my buddy's that I was with that shooting surf with the telephoto manual focus lens was like a video game. It was really tough to focus. It's been a while since I have shot film and my AE-1 tends to have some light leaks that give it an interesting look.

I also shot some digitally with the cheapy Nikon 75-300mm lens. The lens is super soft, but compared to the AE-1, my Nikon D300 shoots a lot quicker.

My friend Keith, whose house we stayed at.

Keith always jokes with me that I'll be out on on the beach shooting surf, but whenever he gets a sick wave I'll be off taking pictures of something on the beach or the landscape. The first one reminds me of how captivating the beach can be when you are so young.

After the BLORR show on Saturday, we headed over to someone's house for some pool.
